FIVE HOLE mauls Bulldogs in Opening Round of Playoffs

BLOOMINGTION -- Five Hole F Al Vokaty's 2 goals and G Jim Norton's 14 saves lead the way in #2 seed Five Hole's open round playoff victory over #7 seed Bulldogs. The victory gives Five Hole its first ever 2 game winning streak.

Five Hole got on the board first with and early goal from C Brett Bonin who capitalized on passes from D Ed George and F Nic George. Five Hole increased the early lead when F Al Vokaty scored his first career goal when he shot past the Bulldog goalie on a pass from F Nic George.

After the early 2-0 lead, the Bulldogs scored making the score 2-1. Five Hole responded quickly when D Ed George rushed the ball up from the defensive zone creating a 2 on 1 with C Bonin who scored his 2nd of the night on the pass from D Ed George making the score 3-1. The Bulldogs answered quickly making the score 3-2. Five Hole's over-confidence and laziness allowed the Bulldogs to control the ball and score easily. After a few choice words from Coach George, Five Hole answered when D Justin Swanson's shot on net allowed F Nic George to control the rebound and "scoop" the ball top shelf past the Bulldog goalie making the score 4-2 at half.

After a quick intermission, Five Hole started the 2nd half off slowly, allowing shots and offensive control by the Bulldogs. Several saves from G Jim Norton allowed Five Hole players to catch their breathe and move in for the kill. F Dustin Birch's one-timer from F Nic George past the goalie half way through the period put Five Hole up 5-2. The never say die Bulldogs quickly responded making the score 5-3. Five Hole F Al Vokaty's 2nd goal of evening on passes from F Dustin Bierch and F Nic George iced the pesky Bulldogs at 6-3.

The victory for Five Holes sets up a rematch with the Ice Holes in the semi-finals. The Ice Holes shut-out Five Hole 3-0 in Five Holes 1st ever game. The #6 seed Ice Holes upset the #3 seed Cougar Bait.

Game notes
Five Hole F Jeff Okland and D Bryant Johnson missed Wednesday playoff game. F Okland returns from Mexico next Monday, in-time for the final playoff games.
